Price per golfer £999.00

Best Golf in Wales

This tour is arranged so that you can play a selection of the best courses in South Wales from one base location. We have selected a hotel in the capital city Cardiff a good base for dining and entertainment. Three of the courses are on the coast to the west. The 2010 Course at Celtic Manor, built specially for the 2010 Ryder Cup is about 16 miles east of Cardiff. Monmouth Rolls is a short tour inland and you can take the opportunity to drive via Chepstow to Monmouth, one of the most scenic drives in South Wales through the lower reaches of the Wye Valley. A popular add-on is to spend some time in London.

Call toll free 1-888-529-2448 to discuss alternative length of stay, golf, transport or accommodation options.

Day 1 Arrive a London airport, drive to the Royal Hotel in Cardiff, the capital city of Wales, for six nights.

Day 2 Play Southerndown a demanding course with bracken and gorse to punish wayward shots. On windy days you need to negotiate the natural hazards with care.

Day 3 Drive to Porthcawl and play the championship links Royal Porthcawl, many amateur and professional events are held here, the leading course in Wales.

Day 4 Play Pennard, it is perched high on a cliff top but still has links characteristics.

Day 5 Play Rolls of Monmouth, it was linked to the famous Rolls Royce Company. Greg Norman when he was Rolls touring professional thought that the four short holes on this lush parkland course were 'fantastic'.

Day 6 Play the 2010 course at Celtic Manor, the first course to be built specifically for a Ryder Cup, a great experience that you will recall if you watch the tournament in October 2010.

Hotels

The Royal Hotel Cardiff is a cool boutique-style hotel in the center of the capital city. There are 64 bedrooms, some with the most spectacular views over the city or the Millennium stadium. The exterior period features have been restored, whilst the interior has undergone a metamorphosis similar to Cardiff’s own. In the 64 bedrooms you can expect to languish in 100% Egyptian percale cotton bed linen laid on pocket sprung beds, your head will slowly sink into over-sized goose down pillows whilst you snuggle into squashy duvets. The bathrooms are encased with natural limestone and the experience is either invigorating from massage showers, or relaxing in deep baths using spa style toiletries designed in the states, then wrap-up in soft white towels or waffle robes. All rooms have; air-conditioning, triple-glazing, cafetiere coffee, herbal teas, mineral water, laptop safe, salon-style hairdryer, cd/dvd player, lcd or plasma tv and broadband internet access.

Golf courses

Pennard is often called the 'links in the sky' because, although it resembles a seaside links course, it is perched high on a cliff-top west of Swansea. This brings a double benefit to the lovers of links golf - the sand-based fairways offer the usual pleasures and its lofty position provides outstanding views. It is an excellent golf course and often plays host to big championships of the amateur game in Wales. Founded in 1896, Pennard was designed by the great James Braid whose skill is behind many of Wales' best layouts and it has been developed to meet modern needs with extended tees and improved fairways and greens. (6030 yards, Par:71)

Royal Porthcawl G.C. has a magnificent setting sloping down to the seashore. The absence of sand hills usually found on links courses enables the golfer to see the sea from every hole and to enjoy memorable views south to Somerset and Exmoor, and northwest across Swansea Bay to the Gower Peninsula. With holes facing into every point of the compass, the player is always tested by the wind and will probably need every club in the bag. King Edward VII bestowed the honour of Royal status on the club in 1909 and in 1932 the Prince of Wales visited the club with some of his friends who were members. The status of the course is sustained by the many amateur and professional events held at the Club over the years, the Amateur Championship (six times), the Walker Cup, the Curtis Cup, the European Team Championship, the Home Internationals (eight times), the Vagliano Trophy, the Ladies British Open Amateur Championship, the Dunlop Masters, the Penfold and the Coral Classic. (6885 yards, Par: 72)

Southerndown is a cliff top course founded in 1905. It has been developed over the years by five of the most respected golf course architects in the world, and it shows. Undulating fairways and tight lies give the course a downland/links character. Bracken and gorse punish wayward shots and on windy days golfers need to negotiate the hazards with care. There are many longer courses, but few with a finer set of par-threes. Equally memorable are the closing holes, usually played into the wind. The 18th in particular with its intimidating gorse and renowned split-level fairway will live long in the memory. (6449 yards, Par: 70)

Best Golf in WalesThe Twenty Ten Course at Celtic Manor Resort opened for play in July 2007 and has already staged the Welsh Open. It is the first course to be built specifically for the Ryder Cup, golf's greatest team tournament. There are water hazards on half of its holes, the course has six signature holes and presents many memorable tests and risk-and-reward dilemmas. One of the features of the spectacular new course is its variety with many of the earlier holes having a links-like feel with some long rough and greenside swales, before the middle section of the course reveals the full extent of the lake-lined challenge. A tough finishing stretch culminates in a real sting in the tail at the 18th. (7493 yards, Par: 71) There are other two courses at the resort, the Montgomery and the Roman Road.

Best Golf in WalesRolls of Monmouth Golf Course has an unusual history. The clubhouse is the former workshop and garage of the 18th century mansion, which was the home of Charles Stuart Rolls the early aviator, and motoring pioneer. He formed a partnership with Henry Royce and the first engine bearing their famous names emerged from those garage doors, which now form one wall of the clubhouse lounge area.

The course is parkland and demands a wide range of shots and each hole has been designed to challenge each aspect of the golfer's game. It is designed in two halves, separated by a large wooded hill. This separation added to the 600 acres of perimeter woodland surrounding the estate, provides peace and tranquility, which is only broken by the abundance of wildlife including deer, and waterfowl. (6,733 yards, Par: 72)
